Missouri AKA Day at the Capitol a Success

Missouri Chapters met in Jefferson City for the AKA Day at the Capitol.  The event was held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016.  It was a collaboration between Central Region and Midwestern Region Connection Committees.    Sorority members from across Missouri met to advocate for key issues facing our community.  The focus issues of the day were Mental Health, Social Justice Civil Rights, and Voter Rights. 

Speakers included:

Anita Russell, President, Kansas City NAACP 

Cindi Keele, Executive Director - NAMI Missouri 

Jeanette Mott Oxford, Executive Director, Empower Missouri 

Rep. Kim Gardner/Rep. Bonnaye Mims 

Rep. Brandon Ellington/Rep. Clem Smith 

Sen. Shalonn “Kiki” Curls/ Sen. Jamilah Nasheed 

Jan M. Carpenter-Baker, Mid-Western Regional Director and Kathy A. Walker-Steele, Central Regional Director both participated in the program.   The event was chaired by Carol Graves of Beta Omega Chapter and Stacey Edwards of Gamma Omega.
