Congratulatory Reception held for Mrs. Twyla Woods-Buford at Magnolia’s at Caenen Castle in Shawnee, KS.

ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC. – BETA OMEGA CHAPTER Hosts Reception for New Mid-Western Regional Director On Saturday, December 1, 2018, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Beta Omega Chapter of Kansas City, MO hosted a congratulatory reception for Mrs. Twyla Woods-Buford at Magnolia’s at Caenen Castle in Shawnee, KS. In July of this year Woods-Buford was installed as the Mid-WesternRegional Director at the sorority’s 68th Boule in Houston, Texas.

With a Harlem Renaissance theme, members wore fashionable attire reflecting the roaring 1920s to the reception focused on International President, Glenda Glover’s Arts Target under her 2018-2022 International Program, Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service.  Barbara Graham was chairman of the Regional Director’s reception.

Elected officials from local and state government and other National Pan-Hellenic Council Greekletter organizations attended. Alissia Canady, councilwoman for the 5th District in Kansas City, MO, brought greetings on behalf of the city. Barbara Anne Washington, Representative for Missouri’s 23rd State House District, shared a proclamation from the office of Missouri Governor Michael L. Parson. Mr. Damon E. Roath of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Lambda Chapter of Kansas City, MO also brought congratulatory greetings.

Three former Mid-Western Regional Directors, Delorise A. Gines (19th) of Missouri,  Brenda A. Lewis (25th) of Oklahoma and  Jan M. Carpenter-Baker (29th) of Kansas attended and brought congratulatory greetings and inspirational words of wisdom.

Charnissa Holiday-Scott, President of Beta Omega (Kansas City, MO),  Sharon Hayes, President of Mu Omega (Kansas City, KS), Rhonda Harris, immediate past President of Xi Tau Omega (Grandview, MO) and Ashley Hall, President of Upsilon Rho Omega (Overland Park, KS) greeted attendees. Members appointed to regional and international committees by the Regional Director and International President also attended the program and were recognized.

Woods-Buford is a retired educator who began her career in the Des Moines, IA public schools as a teacher associate. After earning her bachelor’s master’s and education specialist degrees from Drake University, she worked as a teacher, principal, assistant director of elementary education, associate superintendent of human resources and chief of staff. 

Woods-Buford was initiated into Iota Zeta Omega Chapter in Des Moines, IA in 1978. After moving to Kansas City, MO, Woods-Buford transferred to Beta Omega Chapter. She is a life member of the sorority with forty years of uninterrupted active service.

Beyond her sorority service,  Woods-Buford enjoys spending time with her husband Robert Buford, her retirement and her church, Friendship Baptist Church of Kansas City, MO.
